General Notes: Brewed using snow as only water source.
Tasting Notes: Tasing notes taken 23 April 2012, 21 days after kegging. Poured from tap into a pint glass. Appearance: medium amber hue with the tiniest touch of haze. Head poured a thick finger of pillowy ivory foam which dissipated somewhat slowly, leaving a nice lace on the glass. Quite good. (4) Smell: lightly biscuity malt with a very nice citrus nose to it. Perhaps not stylistically accurate but I love the aroma imparted by the Amarillo hops. Pleasing. (4) Taste: lightly citrusy with some biscuity maltiness and a little bit of a bready character. Bitterness is low but hop flavor is high for the style. It creates an interestingly bright, springy effect which I think might pair well with a salad. Nice, but there is an underlying blandness which I think is the result of using snow-water: the lack of salts really is a detriment here. (3.5) Mouthfeel: light body with a good level of carbonation. Not enough body to be really creamy, but carbonation worked out well. (3.5) Drinkability: highly drinkable. Basement-low ABV and good flavor make this a very quaffable springtime beer. (4) Overall score 3.75 (B). A solid mild ale recipe which would definitely be worth trying with a more conventional water source.
