Tasting Notes:

Tasting notes taken 10/11/2009. Poured from bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: very dark brown with a slight ruby tinge when held up to the light. One finger of tan foam head with little lace. (3.5)

Smell: quite subtle but the aroma is predominantly of chocolate and a little tartness. (3)

Taste: nice chocolate flavor with a little bitter roasted-coffee flavor at the end. Beer is nicely bitter and well-balanced; hops aren't overly present but are floral and a little earthy in character. Quite good I'd say. (4)

Mouthfeel: medium bodied with a very creamy texture. Some of these bottles didn't carbonate up so well, so it is lucky I got a good bottle for reviewing. I like it a lot. (4)

Drinkability: this is a highly drinkable beer. Flavor and mouthfeel are solid; I wish this weren't my last bottle. (4)

Average score 3.7 (B); not bad at all. This beer could have had a lot better aroma; if it smelled as good as it tasted it would be a rock-solid porter that I would want to have on hand all the time. As it is, I think I ought to brew up a Blackacre Butte #3 whenever I get a kegging system. Maybe up the Tettnanger a little bit.
