Tasting Notes: Tasting notes taken 28 March 2014, 13 days after kegging. Dispensed from kegerator into a dimpled mug. Appearance: straw-yellow hue with a light effervescence and a very light haze. Head poured a finger of creamy white foam. Not much more you can ask from the style; maybe a touch less haze. (3.75) Smell: light and grainy, and even a little bit creamy. Hop character is pretty good in this one, with piney notes coming through. The overall effect is earthy, but refreshing. This is a bit of a light style, but I think I'm pretty on-target for this one. (4) Taste: quite grainy with a hint of sour undertones and a fair bit of sweetness. Hop character is nice; there's both some pineyness and a light fruitiness present. Bitterness is on the strong side for the style, but it really works for me. Maybe not the best beer ever made, but for the style it's damn decent. (4) Mouthfeel: light body but with a good, well-integrated carbonation which yields a good creaminess. Bam! (4) Drinkability: extremely quaffable. One of the benefits of making a beer like this is gulping down great glassfuls of the stuff. (4.25) Overall score 3.98 (B+). I'm quite satisfied with how this beer came out. I definitely think it's better than the award-winning Two Bails, but perhaps that's due to some better hopping results. I think light-sequestration helps a lot for this type of beer, too -- see my notes for Two Bails. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
