Tasting Notes:

Tasting notes taken 15 May 2013, 39 days after kegging. Dispensed from kegerator into a glass mug.

Appearance: medium orange hue with a bit of haze; just a tad too much to make out any effervescence. Head poured a few fingers of frothy ivory foam and has settled to a thick thumb; retention and lacing are quite good. This is a pretty solid-looking IPA. After drinking half a glass, there's still some head hanging on as well as a nice chunky lacing. Ba dow! (4.25)

Smell: fruity and berry-like, with some grassy notes as well. All very spring-like, with a light malty sweetness backing everything up. It's an interesting combination of hops, as was found with Pale Blue Eyes. Despite all the dry-hopping, the aroma is not particularly in your face; it's smooth like the pale ale version. (4)

Taste: sweet up front with a little bit of generic berry and maybe pear-like hop character. This slowly morphs into a strong but smooth bitterness; this is definitely an IPA. I rather like it, although I think in the future these hops should be interspersed with some more traditional citrusy stuff; maybe Belma & Amarillo? Hmmm. (4)

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation. This was conditioned at a lower PSI and over a greater time period than the Pale Blue Eyes, and I think that is noticeable in the creaminess of this brew. (4)

Drinkability: this is a solidly drinkable IPA. It's not quite the serial-quaffer the pale ale was, but it definitely does the trick. (4)

Overall score 4.05 (A-). I'm quite happy with how this beer turned out. If I could routinely make such reasonable and drinkable IPAs, I would be a happy camper.
