Wyeast 3711 - French Saison
General Notes:

Tasting Notes:

Tasting notes taken 3 December 2016, 187 days after kegging. Dispensed from kegerator into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: light golden hue with minimal haze and a light effervescence. Head poured a finger of frothy white foam that leaves a good lace on the glass. This is darn nice! (4)

Smell: lightly sweet and spicy saison aroma. Hops are kind of light and grassy. It's not overly complicated, but it doesn't have that too-piquant saison aroma that 3711 can sometimes generate. I think it turned out pretty well. (3.75)

Taste: there's definitely a little spicy saison character here; it's very middle-of-the-road from a flavor profile standpoint. There might be a little complexity from the rye, but for the most part it is a pretty standard saison. (3.75)

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, which is to be expected given the low OG and ABV. Carbonation is pretty good, though. (3.5)

Drinkability: it's a session saison, so as per its design it is a flavorful beer that I could really drink a lot of. From this standpoint, this beer is quite a success. (4)

Overall score 3.8 (B+). I'd say this was a successful brew, given the goal behind a session saison. It's not perfect, but it's definitely a refreshing, quaffable beer.
